Public-safety RF testing measures radio frequency signal strength throughout a building to determine whether firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and other first responders can reliably communicate inside the facility.
RF testing helps determine whether your building provides adequate in-building public-safety radio coverage. Testing may be requested for new construction, renovations, certificates of occupancy, existing buildings, or when required by your local AHJ or applicable building and fire codes.
Testing may include occupied areas, stairwells, corridors, basements, parking areas, equipment rooms, and other portions of the building required by the applicable testing standards and local AHJ.
Our technicians review applicable requirements and building information, develop a testing plan, measure signal strength throughout the required areas, identify weak or failed coverage areas, document the results, and provide recommendations for the next steps.
If testing demonstrates acceptable coverage, a BDA/ERCES system may not be necessary, subject to approval by your local AHJ. Our goal is to confirm that your building meets the radio frequency strength required by your local AHJ and local building codes.
If portions of the building do not meet applicable coverage requirements, we document the deficient areas and help determine an appropriate solution. When a coverage enhancement system is required, we can provide both the RF testing and BDA/ERCES system solution.
Helpful information includes building plans, square footage, number of floors, basement or parking information, previous RF reports if available, access to required building areas, and information about construction materials when known.

BDA / ERCES SYSTEMS
A BDA, or Bi-Directional Amplifier, is part of an in-building radio coverage system designed to improve public-safety radio signals in areas where coverage is weak or unreliable.
ERCES stands for Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement System. It is designed to help provide reliable radio communications for emergency responders inside buildings where normal public-safety radio signals may not provide adequate coverage.
No. A BDA/ERCES system should generally be installed when testing and applicable requirements show that additional public-safety radio coverage is necessary. We believe in testing first and determining what the building actually needs rather than automatically recommending equipment.
A typical system may include a donor antenna, BDA, distributed antennas, cabling and related equipment, backup power, and monitoring / supervisory components. The exact system depends on the building, radio system, applicable codes, and AHJ requirements.
Yes. We provide public-safety RF testing and can also provide the BDA/ERCES installation solution when enhancement is required.
◆
FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS
Yes. We provide fire alarm system services including design support, installation, testing, inspection, monitoring, maintenance, and related life-safety solutions.
A typical fire alarm system may include a fire alarm control panel, smoke and heat detectors, notification appliances such as horns and strobes, manual pull stations, communication devices, and primary and backup power.
Inspection and testing requirements depend on the system, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and your local AHJ. We can help you understand the requirements that apply to your facility.
Yes. Fire alarm monitoring can help ensure that alarm signals are communicated promptly to the appropriate monitoring center and emergency response resources.
◆
SCHOOLS & SCHOOL DISTRICTS
Yes. Schools and school districts are one of our core markets. We can evaluate public-safety radio coverage in classrooms, hallways, administrative areas, gyms, athletic facilities, auditoriums, cafeterias, common areas, and other portions of a school campus.
During an emergency, firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, school administrators, and other responders need dependable communications throughout the facility. Reliable in-building radio coverage can support faster coordination and safer emergency operations.
Yes. We can work with individual schools as well as school districts that need testing, assessment, planning, or system solutions across multiple facilities.
▦
BUILDING OWNERS, PROPERTY MANAGERS & CONTRACTORS
Yes. Apartment communities are one of our core markets. We can assist with public-safety RF testing, BDA/ERCES requirements, fire alarm systems, and related code-compliance needs.
Yes. We work with commercial businesses and facilities that need dependable public-safety communications, RF testing, BDA/ERCES solutions, and fire alarm systems.
Yes. Successful projects often require cooperation among building owners, contractors, design professionals, fire officials, inspectors, and the local AHJ. We can help coordinate the technical information and documentation needed for the project.
☑
CODES & COMPLIANCE
AHJ stands for Authority Having Jurisdiction. The AHJ is the organization or official responsible for interpreting and enforcing applicable codes and requirements for a particular project or location.
No. Requirements can vary by jurisdiction, building type, adopted code edition, local amendments, and the public-safety radio system serving the area. We will confirm requirements with the applicable AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) before making any final design plans.
Depending on the project and jurisdiction, requirements may be influenced by the International Fire Code (IFC), NFPA standards, locally adopted building and fire codes, and requirements established by the local AHJ.
